SEP uses a youth-centered approach that combines sports, health, education, and sustainable livelihoods to empower vulnerable youth in Homa Bay County. Through safe and inclusive spaces, civic leadership, and climate-smart agriculture, SEP equips communities with skills and opportunities to drive sustainable local development and long-term change.
At our core, SEP is a catalyst for sustainable, grassroots development, driven by the fundamental belief that young people are the ultimate agents of change. We are a dedicated team of local leaders, educators, and advocates operating a youth-centered transformation model that seamlessly bridges sports, health, education, and economic empowerment. Rather than viewing vulnerable youth as a demographic to be managed, we treat them as active partners in their own development. By fostering civic engagement and creating safe spaces for transparent dialogue, we ensure that our interventions provide structural foundations for long-term community resilience rather than just temporary relief.
Achieving this level of systemic impact requires a global network of shared values and diverse expertise. We are a deeply collaborative organization that actively seeks to align with institutional partners, passionate volunteers, and forward-thinking donors who understand the undeniable value of investing at the grassroots level. Whether you are funding our climate-smart agriculture initiatives, volunteering your time to mentor emerging youth leaders, or partnering with us to scale our health education programs, joining SEP means becoming an integral part of a transparent, high-impact engine for lasting community transformation.

To equip youth in Homa Bay County and beyond with the tools to thrive by integrating sports, holistic health education, mentorship, and climate-resilient livelihoods into a unified engine for grassroots change.
A transformed, resilient society where empowered youth are the primary drivers of sustainable community development.
Sports serve as our most powerful engagement tool. By utilizing structured football programs, we shatter social barriers, build unshakeable community trust, and provide a secure, physical platform for mentorship and positive behavior change.
We prioritize physical and psychological resilience above all else. Through peer-to-peer dialogue and integrated health education, we empower vulnerable demographics to make informed, highly protective decisions regarding their bodies and their futures.
Education is the ultimate bedrock of independence. We fortify both formal and informal learning pathways, providing the localized mentorship and practical skill-building required to boost employability and end generational poverty.
Economic stability secures community resilience. We champion food security and financial independence by training youth in climate-smart agriculture, value-addition processing, and sustainable income-generating activities.
Grassroots development requires local champions. We foster active civic engagement and conflict resolution skills, enabling individuals to identify community priorities and implement sustainable solutions themselves.
The Society Empowerment Project (SEP) was born in 2002 from a profound concern for the vulnerable youth of Homa Bay County. In a region grappling with complex socio-economic hurdles, our founders recognized a critical absence of safe, inclusive spaces where young people could build their skills and reclaim their dignity. What started as informal grassroots sports gatherings quickly matured into a structured movement. We discovered early on that "developmental football" was far more than a game—it was a highly effective engine for mobilizing youth, earning community trust, and opening the door to deeper conversations about health, leadership, and personal growth.
Over the past two decades, that initial spark on the football pitch has evolved into a robust, multi-pillar community transformation model. As the needs of our community grew, so did our approach. We systematically expanded our grassroots efforts to integrate critical health education, life skills mentorship, and climate-resilient agribusiness training into our core programming. Today, SEP’s story is one of continuous, community-driven evolution, proving that when you equip young people with comprehensive tools and unwavering support, they possess the undeniable capability to rewrite their own futures and uplift their entire region
"True community transformation begins when we stop seeing youth as a challenge to be managed, and start treating them as the primary drivers of sustainable change."
